April to June is the best time to book a flight to Beirut, when the temperatures sit around 18 to 24 degrees Celsius. If you do happen to travel to Beirut during June, be sure not to miss ‘The Beirut Spring Festival’. This event showcases international performances, from theatre, music, dance and other areas, all focusing around themes of tolerance, cultural diversity, in particular in societies which face violence and injustice. The festival has free admission to all and takes place in various venues across the city.
Throughout the months of July, August and September, the climate can be uncomfortably hot, so it is advised not to book flights to Beirut during this time. August can also be quite muggy which some visitors may not enjoy, whilst January and February are the coldest months, where temperatures fall to around 11 degrees. During the cooler months there is still plenty to do, in particular, the Al Bustan Festival, from February through to March. This annual celebration of classical music and dance is a must-see for classical music lovers. Because of its French colonial history, many Beirutis (yes, Beirutis), speak French – and a little French can go a long way. A simple ‘Bonjour’ when you enter a café, shop, or taxi can establish a good initial impression with whoever you’re about to do business with. And of course, don’t forget to say ‘Merci’ whenever appropriate.
There is no public transportation from Beirut–Rafic Hariri international airport (BEY) to the city, so once your flight lands take either an airport-certified taxi or a regular taxi. Bargain for the price.
