Da Nang experiences a tropical monsoon climate which has two distinct seasons, a wet, typhoon season (September through December), where you can find cheap flights to Da Nang, and a dry season (February through April), where the costs of flights are higher.
There is often differing views of when the wet season officially starts in Da Nang as it can vary, although it is mostly considered to fall between September and December. The wet season usually sees sunny days, with temperatures in the 20s and 30s mixed with occasional drizzle and heavy showers in the evenings. The city experiences the most rainfall during the month of October. This period is also the peak monsoon season throughout central Vietnam, although there is also the possibility of monsoons from January to March.
As the city is located within the tropics, there is regular rainfall throughout the year, mostly short heavy bursts of rain. You should therefore take this in consideration when packing, no matter when you book your flights to Da Nang.
Summer (June through August) can be quite hot and sticky, with temperatures on average in the high 20s to mid-30s. This combined with high humidity can make these months quite uncomfortable for some travellers, however, the city can be relatively crowded as this period sees an increase in domestic travel.
The best time to fly to Da Nang, weather-wise, is during the dry season (February to April). This is when the weather is slightly cooler, with temperatures approximately in the 20s and there is the least rain. This is the best time to book flights if you would like to make the most of outdoor attractions.
Da Nang is the perfect destination in terms of events, with numerous festivities taking place across the year. The Tet Nguyen Dan is perhaps one of the most important and popular festivals of the year which celebrates the Lunar New Year. Many locals will mark this occasion by dressing up in traditional Vietnamese costumes and taking to the streets to celebrate. This takes place in January and dates vary according to the lunar calendar. Another popular event is Liberation Day, in April. A number of festivities take place along the banks of the River Han, as well as a great boat race with both local and provincial teams taking part.

Da Nang is located on the stunning South China Sea coastline with the Annamite Mountain range providing an impressive backdrop to this vibrant and friendly city. Its ancient roots can be traced back the Champa Kingdom in 192 AD; this fascinating heritage is documented at the Museum of Cham Sculpture where terracotta masterpieces dating from the 7th century are on display. Follow this with a visit to the My Son archaeological site, set in a remote forested valley, where many of the museum’s sculptures originated from. There are a total of four World Heritage Sites within easy access of the city, including My Son and the imperial City of Hue.
Da Nang has an interesting mix of old and new buildings: along the Han riverfront there are modernist hotels, luxury villas and top class contemporary restaurants. If you venture further into the city, you can find fine examples of French colonial architecture, wonderful old merchant houses, traditional Vietnamese temples such as Cao Dai and plenty of interweaving alley-ways to explore. The city has 10 bridges that connect its two sides: the fire-breathing Dragon Bridge is a landmark not to be missed especially when it is illuminated at night.
There is an abundance of beautiful palm fringed white sandy beaches along the over 30 km of Da Nang’s coast. China Beach is a popular destination with abundant water sport facilities such as surfing and water-skiing, spa resorts offering pampering treatments and international quality dining establishments. Alternatively, visit picturesque Lang Co Beach for a quieter, more peaceful location with swimming in the ocean on one side or in the crystal clear waters of the turquoise lagoon on its other side.
The pavements of Da Nang are pedestrian-friendly and exploring on foot is a good way to soak up the authentic atmosphere of local markets and lifestyle. There are bus services to outlying areas and cities further afield, as well as train routes from Da Nang Station on the The Reunification Express to Hanoi and Hoi Chi Minh. There are a wide variety of exciting tours available around the city from local guides on foot or motorbike to organised minivan tours to experience the nightlife, local cuisine or historical aspects of this thriving and characterful city.
Flights will land at Da Nang International Airport (DAD), which is situated 3 km south-west of the city centre, a 10-minute taxi ride. Travellers should be aware that they may have to haggle with taxi drivers over the fare, the best advice is to insist on using the meter rather than agreeing a fixed price and also pay in the Dong – Vietnam’s national currency. Hiring a motorbike or electric scooter is a very popular way to get out and about during your holiday, they can be hired on a daily basis and do not require much skill to drive along the wide spacious city roads.
